SUPPORTING UNICEF’S WORK FOR CHILDREN AROUND THE WORLD

Abdulrahman, Age 14, Yemen

“I was out of school for four years, during which I worked selling eggs, ice cream and vegetables to support my family. When I grow up, I would like to become a programmer or a doctor.”

Abdulrahman left school four years ago, when he was in fifth grade. During his time away from the classroom, he worked selling eggs, ice cream and vegetables to help support his family. Now, with the support of UNICEF, Abdulrahman is back in the classroom, learning alongside other children of different ages who, like him, have returned to education. With the opportunity to continue his learning, Abdulrahman is looking to the future and hopes one day to become a programmer or a doctor. Image ©UNICEF/Mohammed

Ghuson, Age 10, Syria

“I draw, I play, and I learn things I never knew. I want to become an artist”

Ghuson and her family returned to Syria after several years living in Lebanon, finding their home damaged by conflict and facing the challenge of rebuilding their lives. Today, Ghuson attends a UNICEF-supported community centre, where she has a safe space to learn, play and draw alongside other children. Through activities at the centre, she also learns practical ways to stay safe, including how to recognise and avoid explosive ordnance. For Ghuson, the centre is also a place to explore her creativity and look to the future. She loves drawing and hopes to become an artist when she grows up. Image ©UNICEF/Aljumaa
