When climate leaders gathered in Belém last weekend for COP30, it felt different from the usual swirl of speeches and slow negotiations. There was a sense that this was meant to be a ‘do-something’ COP. Less hand-wringing, more action. And honestly, that’s a feeling we understand well at PlanetPlay.
Nature was at the heart of the conference. Forests, wildlife, indigenous communities. And the ecosystems that keep our planet alive weren’t side notes; they were the main story. That hit home.
The projects we support are exactly the kind of nature-based solutions everyone was talking about: restoring forests, protecting biodiversity, and funding the people who know those landscapes best.
And it’s this focus that inspires our flagship 2026 initiative: Battle for the Habitats. After a ten-month deep dive to select the right project, 100% of everything we generate next year will go directly to WithOneSeed, a carefully chosen biodiversity restoration initiative in Timor-Leste, Indonesia.
Battle for the Habitats is going to be a huge campaign with huge goals: Featuring over 100 games, some of the world’s biggest streamers and amplification across digital and traditional media, our aim is to raise $1 million for WithOneSeed.
It will see studios and gamers take the virtual fight to those doing the most harm to the planet via community activations, in-game DLC, challenges, side quests and live ops, as two streaming legends captain their teams towards an epic final battle.
It’s not just about raising the money – it’s about how you allocate it
Crucially, developing countries attending COP made it clear that climate action can’t rely on vague promises or one-off donations. It needs real, reliable financing. While governments and institutions figure out how to make that happen, the rest of us can’t sit around waiting.
That’s where PlanetPlay’s model and Battle for the Habitats comes in. We don’t need a perfect global deal to unlock climate action. Millions of players can make a difference today simply by choosing where they download, play, or shop. It’s not charity. It’s not guilt-tripping. It’s a way for people to have real impact, one action at a time.
COP30 also reminded us that the 1.5°C goal is still non-negotiable. Scientists, leaders, and communities repeated it over and over – falling short isn’t an option. To get there, the world must slash emissions, protect nature, and move faster on climate finance.
We help your games business Make Green Moves
Via initiatives like Battle for the Habitats PlanetPlay will keep making it ridiculously easy for games studios, publishers, platforms and gamers everywhere to back Gold Standard verified, high-quality projects that are part of the solution – just like WithOneSeed
Of course, COP30 wasn’t perfect. Political tensions came to the fore and there was arguably a sense that no-one wishes to take accountability, but that doesn’t mean progress isn’t happening. It just means governments can’t do this alone. And the world knows it.
If there’s one thing we’re taking from Belém, it’s that climate action needs everyone. Governments, businesses, communities… and gamers. This is something we’ve believed in from day one at PlanetPlay: meaningful climate impact doesn’t only happen in boardrooms. It happens every time someone chooses to play with purpose.
Join our Battle for the Habitats
That belief is at the heart of Battle for the Habitats. PlanetPlay will continue to use games, game design, and the power of players to drive engagement and deliver results.
So while world leaders debate, we’ll keep doing what we do best: empowering players to take action. Let’s keep going. Let’s keep playing. Let’s Make Green Moves together.
