At PlanetPlay, we believe that play can be powerful. In 2025, that belief translated into measurable environmental impact across the games industry, as studios, players and partners came together to fund real-world action.
This Progress Report captures what’s possible when games are aligned with purpose demonstrating how games can support climate action, biodiversity restoration and community resilience at a global scale.
We’re proud to share our Progress Report, presenting a snapshot of what’s possible when the games industry comes together with purpose.
A Year of Impact, Powered by Play
To date, PlanetPlay has helped channel over $2.2 million into Gold Standard-certified environmental projects, supporting climate mitigation, nature restoration and social impact initiatives around the world.
Every project supported through PlanetPlay is:
From cleaner cooking solutions in Kenya (East Africa) to habitat restoration projects (Southeast Asia), PlanetPlay-supported initiatives are delivering tangible environmental and community benefits across multiple regions.
Marketplace Growth
With over 350,000 registered users, PlanetPlay’s unique marketplace (www.planetplay.com) now offers more than 4,000 PC games.
Our amazing partner studios & publishers now include 505 Games, Akupara Games, Bandai Namco, Business Goose, Capcom, Curve Games, Firesquid, Frontier Developments, Konami, Lab Cave, Ninja Theory, Nintendo, PQube, Private Division, Raw Fury, Sega, Serious Bros, Sharkmob, Spilt Milk Studios, Take-Two (Gearbox & 2K), ustwo games, Waving Bear Studio, and WhyKev.
Purchases and revenue generated by the store increased by 1,163% and 3,000%, respectively, in 2025, with visitors from 225 countries. Every time a player adds a game to their library, they’re not just boosting their collection, they're helping to fund projects that protect the planet.
Proving Games Can Drive Change
The year also marked a turning point in how the industry views sustainability. Our Play2Act initiative, developed with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), gathered insights from 200,000 gamers across 190 countries, giving policymakers and global institutions a direct window into how players think, feel and act on climate issues. That data is now featured on UNDP’s SparkBlue platform, helping inform real-world decision-making.
Meanwhile, initiatives like Make Green Moves and the first-ever Green Games Showcase at Summer Game Fest continued to demonstrate how sustainability can be integrated into gameplay and live ops, raising awareness, funding action and engaging millions of players worldwide.
Recognition, Collaboration and Momentum
In 2025, PlanetPlay was recognised for its work, from awards shortlists to participation in conferences. But what matters most isn’t the recognition, it’s the momentum.
Studios of all sizes, from indie teams to global publishers, joined us to prove that sustainability doesn’t need to be complex, costly or compromising. When designed well, it enhances creativity, strengthens communities and builds trust with players.
Our 2025 Progress Report goes deeper into the data, the stories and the partnerships behind this work, and sets out our ambitions for what comes next.
